In Valentina Ovsyannikova’s iconography workshop, icons are created using traditional techniques. Each piece is painted on a wooden board, backgrounds and halos are covered with gold leaf. The painting is done using natural pigments—earths and minerals—ground in an egg-based emulsion. Finally, the artwork is coated with natural linseed oil. This time-honored technique allows the creation of sacred images that convey blessings and prayerful devotion from generation to generation.
